Corporate & Product Carbon Footprints
Greenhouse Gas Inventories – A Robust Foundation for Climate Strategy and Reporting
A GHG inventory identifies hot spots within an organization or a product life cycle where greenhouse gas emissions arise. It thus provides a verifiable database for greenhouse gas neutrality or net-zero targets, action planning, customer enquiries and communication.
Depending on your objectives, we structure the GHG inventory to meet specific requirements, such as the European Sustainability Reporting Standard (ESRS-E1) for your CSRD-compliant sustainability reporting, CDP for external disclosure, or Science-Based Targets for net-zero targets.
If statements on greenhouse gas neutrality or net-zero targets are planned, we review supplementary requirements, such as those set out in ISO 14068-1 or SBTi.
GHG Accounting Services
Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) Consultancy
We work with you to prepare an corporate greenhouse gas inventory covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and those Scope 3 emissions relevant to your business, in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol or ISO 14064-1. We document the results in an auditable carbon footprint report.
Scope 3 Materiality Analysis
Together with you, we assess all Scope 3 categories in terms of relevance, data availability and emissions volume. Based on the analysis, we determine which Scope 3 emissions should be included in your GHG inventory.
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)
We support you in quantifying product-related GHG emissions in accordance with ISO 14067, providing a database for supplier evaluation, procurement, stakeholder enquiries and customer communication.
Subsequent Inventories
We assist you in updating your greenhouse gas inventory, revising emission factors and processing the results in a way that trends over several reporting years can be assessed transparently.
Accounting Guidelines
To ensure consistent greenhouse gas accounting, we draw up an accounting guideline so that your emissions data is collected, assessed and documented in a uniform manner across the organization and reported in compliance with the chosen standard, such as the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064-1 or ESRS-E1.
Quality Check
We examine your GHG inventory to ensure the correctness of the selected system boundaries and emission factors, as well as the completeness of all emission sources. Furthermore, we reconcile the results with the requirements of the selected standard.
Climate Protection Contribution
To offset GHG emissions that are currently unavoidable, we assist with the selection, procurement and retirement of suitable CO₂ credits from emissions reduction or CO₂ removal projects
Environmental Claims
We scrutinize your environmental and climate claims regarding evidence and potential risks associated with misleading statements. In doing so, we consider requirements arising from the national transposition of the EU Empowering Consumers Directive (EmpCo), including those under German competition law (Unfair Competition Act, UWG).
Workshops
We inform on the fundamentals and methodological requirements of GHG accounting and clarify system boundaries, data requirements and accounting logic with the relevant organizational departments, such as procurement, production, controlling and sustainability.
