The European Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) sets out, amongst other things, the conditions under which plant operators can claim financial benefits from the use of biomass for energy purposes, for example in relation to emissions reporting.
With the extension of certification requirements for the use of biomass for energy purposes in the amended version, far more plant operators are now obliged to obtain sustainability certification in accordance with RED III, e.g. under SURE, REDCert, ISCC and others. The increasing complexity of the RED III criteria is posing a growing challenge to companies – we support you in implementing these requirements safely and efficiently.
We guide you through the entire RED III certification process – from preparing for initial certification, through support with compliance audits, mass balance calculations and volume reporting, right through to the regular preparation of evidence and recertification. Organisation and Planning of the Initial Certification
We work with you to draw up a detailed roadmap setting out the basic process for your initial certification, including all substantive and organisational issues, as well as an overview of the key certification schemes under RED III.
Data Collection, Documentation and Supplier Management
We review your plant data and the data from your upstream suppliers. We work with you to define the data transfer processes and control systems, and assist you in preparing the necessary documentation, compiling the relevant technical documents, and establishing or describing the required processes.
Mass Balance and Record-keeping
Mass balance, calculation of GHG reductions and determination of plant efficiency – using Excel tools, we present your relevant sustainability data in a clear and transparent manner, whilst taking into account the criteria for documentation, checks and traceability.
Developing Expertise
We provide training for your staff involved in this area – to build up your team’s skills in the long term.
Pre-audit, Audit and Follow-up audit
We support you throughout the planning, preparation, implementation and follow-up of all audits required for initial certification with your certification body: from the optional pre-audit and data review, through the main audit, to the surveillance audit.
Nabisy Register, Union Database and System Platforms
We will handle the registration, communication and any necessary entries or volume declarations on your behalf with the relevant registers and certification schemes.
Complete Record-keeping
Quarterly updates to the mass balance tool and the transfer of information to the certification system for documentation purposes – we ensure your documentation is complete and up to date.
Compliance under the EU ETS
We ensure that your use of biomass is in line with your ETS compliance obligations and that you can benefit from relief measures.
Annual Recertification
We support you in the planning, preparation, implementation and follow-up of assessments carried out as part of the annual recertification audit – with a particular focus on long-term quality assurance, changes to regulations and an annual needs analysis.
